Social Media Influencing

 Is Social Media Influencing Opinions?

Let’s consider a hypothetical example for a minute. We see a short 10 second video showing a rich person donating food to the needy. Now we can assume multiple angles to the same story

This video can be portrayed as “Humanity is still alive” or the polar opposite “Doing it for publicity”. Now what we perceive as the entire truth might be one side of the coin or one side of the cube in some cases.

When we are presented with such cases, we are now being conditioned to think the way algorithm wants us to think. The same video might get circulated to somebody from a different narrative as compared to his/her friends. Now these social media platforms use algorithms to curate users’ newsfeed to provide them with content that align more with their moral, political, etc beliefs. What happens over a long period of time is that our brain becomes conditioned to think and feel a certain way to any situation. If a new song gets released and you see that majority of the people around you are strongly disliking it then there maybe a chance that overtime you might also start believing the same
