How Deep Is Your Hate

How Deep Is Your Hate?

One day you will watch “Emancipation” and you will wonder why the slave masters had so much hatred for their slaves. Hatred so deep, their heart didn’t falter as they drove hot metal rods into flesh, branding the slaves. Hatred so deep they chased them across town, to the detriment of their safety. Hatred so palpable, they didn’t mind dying as long as they killed the slaves first. You will wonder if you could hate anyone so deeply. You will mentally access your long list of offenders, and you’ll remember your secondary school teachers, male teachers and wonder if your heart would let you hurt them in that way.

First, you’ll exonerate the ones who merely expressed their hatred or whatever it was that made them punish you at the slightest chance. Looking back, you now understand that their behaviour was not about you, it was about them having an unpleasant life and you were just unlucky to have received their wrath. So you will forgive them because their only crime was hating you and while it was a problem then, while it scared you into amnesia whenever they asked you a question, it is no longer a problem. You are free now.
