I Had a Spiritual Awakening In The Mountains Of Kyrgyzstan

I visited Kyrgyzstan at the end of 2020 because I was very depressed. I had just lost my job, gotten out of a terrible relationship, and also had the good fortune to be publicly booted out of a reality TV show I desperately wanted to win. And to top things off, there was a pesky global pandemic to deal with… I was out of money, out of love, and most importantly, shit out of luck. I did a quick little survey to figure out what I did have. I had some savings, meager though they may be. I had a house I could stay in for free — it was my parent’s place, but what the hell. Beggars can’t be choosers. Her name was Elizabeth. She was from Kyrgyzstan. She and I had met and hooked up a couple of months ago, while she was on vacation in Singapore. Elizabeth had flown back to her hometown when the pandemic started, but not before professing her love for me. I had no idea why Elizabeth was into me. She was very beautiful…

While she was away, Elizabeth kept calling me. She kept imploring me to visit her. “You’ll love it here!” She would say. “It’s full of mountains and nature and greenery! You’re a writer, right? Kyrgyzstan will be good for you; it’ll be good for your soul.” She would then add on, somewhat coyly, “Besides, I miss you, and Kyrgyzstan has me…” She had a point, I thought. I’ve been cooped up in a city for too long. Some nature would be good for me. And what was I staying in town for anyway? Was it better to be locked down and shut in with my thoughts, ruminating on my failures, or was it better to hop on a plane and spend some time in a faraway country with an exotic hottie who was in love with me? I made my decision. I dipped into my savings, bought a one-way ticket, then phoned Elizabeth to inform her I was coming.
