the Passenger of your workweek

Are you the Captain or the Passenger of your workweek?

The last couple of weeks, I was all over the place. I had a couple of tasks I needed to do, as you do in the corporate world. But I found myself scattering workload at moments that seemed pretty much random, throughout the workweek.

In effect, it made me feel like other people were pulling the strings, robbing me of autonomy. I hate that feeling with every fibre in my body. If there’s one thing

I really dislike at work, it must be the feeling of not being in control of whatever it is I’m doing. Being an autonomous human being has been proven to be of really high importance in the workplace.

People that are allowed autonomy, display higher levels of self-motivation, they’re more inspired to achieve and are way more likely to engage with the work at hand. That in itself tells us that lack of autonomy destroys motivation, output and engagement.
