My Online Meeting Marathon

My Online Meeting Marathon

It’s a Monday morning, and I find myself facing an onslaught of back-to-back online meetings. The thought alone makes me sigh heavily. The kids know my routine: “Mom’s in a meeting, play quietly.” But on this particular day, the universe seemed to have other plans. After pouring my third cup of coffee, I start my first meeting. I’m presenting a new project, and just as I hit the crux of my argument, the unmistakable sound of a child wailing pierces the air. I scramble for the mute button while shooting apologetic looks at my screen. Thankfully, my kind-hearted colleagues wave it off, but inside, the stress levels are steadily rising. The second meeting begins, and this time I decide to be proactive. I distribute snacks, water, colouring books, and even allow a little extra screen time to buy myself an uninterrupted hour.

As I breathe a sigh of relief, I hear the faint tinkling of water. Turning slowly, I witness my youngest turning her water cup into a waterfall feature all over the living room carpet. Meeting number three is set to start, and I feel prepared. I’ve set up a mini play area right next to my workspace — a stroke of genius, I think. This way, I can keep an eye on them and still engage professionally. As I delve into an intense discussion about software glitches, my eldest decides to showcase her recent origami skills. Proudly, she holds up a paper boat just out of the camera’s view. I nod appreciatively, but she seems to need more validation.
