Journalism has remained a consistent and significant profession, which has aided in the development of communication skills within our nation and throughout the world. However, what has allowed this art form to continue its prominence and how will that persist? Evan Lerner, who originally worked at SEED Magazine and is now pursuing institutional PR at Penn Engineering Communications, represents the variety and capability that many journalists obtain, which assists in the development of journalism. When asked about his opinion on whether or not journalism is a dying profession, Lerner provided a well-supported response. “The institutions that support and publish journalists are absolutely dying — that’s just a demonstrable fact when you look at the number of publications that have shuttered over the past 20 years. There’s still excellent journalism all around, and it’s more important than ever for that reason, but it’s becoming more fragmented and tenuous,” said Lerner.
